Chief Health Information Officer (CHIO) & Head of Care Platforms
Job Summary
The Chief Health Information Officer (CHIO) & Head of Care Platforms serves as the senior executive leader responsible for aligning clinical strategy, digital transformation, and technology capabilities to advance patient care, clinician experience, operational excellence, and health outcomes. Reporting to the CIO, this leader serves as the primary bridge between clinical operations and information technology, ensuring the organization's care delivery platforms—including the electronic health record (EHR), clinical applications, revenue cycle-adjacent clinical systems, digital health technologies, and care management platforms—enable safe, efficient, and innovative care delivery. The CHIO & Head of Care Platforms will partner closely with physician, nursing, operational, and executive leaders to optimize clinical workflows, drive adoption of emerging technologies, advance interoperability, and create a data-driven foundation for care transformation across the enterprise.
Job Duties
Clinical Informatics Leadership
- Provide executive leadership for enterprise clinical informatics strategy.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clinical, operational, and executive leadership regarding technology-enabled care transformation.
- Lead the development and execution of clinical technology roadmaps aligned with organizational priorities.
- Foster strong partnerships with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals to improve clinician experience and reduce administrative burden.
- Champion evidence-based practice and workflow standardization across the organization.
Care Platform Strategy & Operations
- Own the strategic direction, governance, optimization, and performance of enterprise care platforms.
- Lead teams responsible for:
- Electronic Health Record (Epic, Cerner, or equivalent)
- Clinical applications
- Ambulatory and inpatient systems
- Care management platforms
- Population health technologies
- Digital front door solutions
- Virtual care and telehealth platforms
- Clinical decision support systems
- Interoperability and health information exchange capabilities
- Establish platform lifecycle management, modernization strategies, and technology investment priorities.
Clinical Transformation & Innovation
- Drive enterprise clinical transformation initiatives enabled by technology.
- Lead efforts to improve care quality, patient safety, physician productivity, and care team efficiency.
- Partner with operational leaders to redesign workflows leveraging automation, AI, predictive analytics, and digital health capabilities.
- Promote innovation through emerging technologies including:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Ambient documentation
- Virtual nursing
- Clinical decision support
- Remote patient monitoring
- Consumer digital engagement platforms
Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead multidisciplinary governance structures for clinical technology investments and prioritization.
- Build consensus among executive, physician, nursing, and operational leadership.
- Facilitate enterprise decision-making for technology-enabled process improvement.
- Act as executive sponsor for major care platform implementations and optimizations.
Data, Quality & Outcomes
- Partner with data and analytics teams to leverage clinical data for quality improvement and performance management.
- Develop measurements linking technology investments to patient outcomes, clinician satisfaction, productivity, and financial performance.
- Establish KPIs and dashboards to monitor platform adoption and effectiveness.
- Advance data-driven care management and population health initiatives.
Regulatory, Compliance & Safety
- Ensure care platforms support regulatory compliance and accreditation requirements.
- Maintain strong focus on patient safety, clinical quality, privacy, security, and risk management.
- Partner with compliance, legal, and cybersecurity teams to ensure adherence to applicable healthcare regulations and standards.
Talent & Organizational Leadership
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing clinical informatics and care platform teams.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor future clinical and technology leaders across the organization.
- Lead organizational change management efforts associated with technology transformation.
Work is typically performed in a clinical and office environment. Travel may be required. Education
Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine- (Required), Master's Degree-Related Field of Study (Required)Experience
Minimum of 15 years-Progressive leadership experience in healthcare technology, clinical informatics, healthcare operations, or digital transformation. (Required)Certification(s) and License(s)
