Physician Ophthalmology Cornea
Job Summary
Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) in Danville, Pennsylvania, is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible, fellowship-trained Cornea Specialist to join our nationally recognized Department of Ophthalmology. This is an exceptional opportunity to become part of a well-established, collaborative practice comprised of multi-specialty ophthalmologists and optometrists serving a large regional referral network.
Job Duties
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive medical and surgical care for patients with corneal, external disease, and anterior segment disorders while contributing to the academic and clinical missions of Geisinger. Opportunities are available to develop innovative programs, participate in clinical research, and teach residents within a large tertiary referral center.
Position Highlights
- Join a well-established ophthalmology practice with subspecialty ophthalmologists and optometrists

- Shared call schedule with resident support
- Call responsibilities primarily involve backup coverage for residents
- Approximately 1:8 weeks
- Support from dedicated Advanced Practice Providers (PA-Cs and CRNPs)
- Practice location includes 50 exam rooms within the outpatient surgery center
Advanced Diagnostic Technology
The practice is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and imaging technology, including:
- Fluorescein Angiography (FA)
- Fundus Photography
- Humphrey Visual Field (HVF)
- Goldman Visual Field Testing
- IOL Master
- Immersion Biometry
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
- Pachymetry
- Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM)
- iDesign Refractive Studio
- Anterior Segment OCT
- Corneal Topography
Procedural and Surgical Opportunities
The successful candidate will have access to a full spectrum of treatment and surgical options, including:
- Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)
- YAG Laser Procedures
- Argon Laser Procedures
- Excimer Laser Treatments
- Corneal Cross-Linking
- Descemet Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK)
- Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK)
Physicians perform procedures at two modern surgical facilities:
- Geisinger Outpatient Surgery Center
- Geisinger Medical Center Main Campus
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, manage, and surgically treat corneal, anterior segment, and external eye diseases
- Provide comprehensive ophthalmic evaluations and consultations
- Perform office-based and surgical procedures consistent with corneal specialty training
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
- Participate in quality improvement, clinical research, and program development initiatives
- Educate and mentor ophthalmology residents and learners
- Maintain excellence in patient-centered care and clinical documentation
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited Ophthalmology Residency
- Fellowship training in Cornea and External Disease
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Ophthalmology
- Eligible for medical licensure in Pennsylvania
