Job Duties

You’ll be responsible for overseeing Risk Management and Patient Safety programs across the assigned region, partnering with leaders to enhance quality and promote patient safety.

  • You’ll support the Northeast Region, with responsibility at Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC) and Geisinger Wyoming Valley (GWV).
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory, management, or leadership experience in a healthcare setting is required. 
  • Bachelor's degree is required.  BSN is preferred.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement principles, patient safety practices, PA patient safety event reporting requirements, and healthcare performance metrics is preferred.
  • Experience in quality management, patient safety, accreditation, risk management, or performance improvement is preferred.
  • Familiarity with event reporting systems, root cause analysis, and performance improvement methodologies is beneficial.

Position Details

Responsible for managing Risk Management and Patient Safety Department for assigned region. Engages as an integral part of providing safe, quality care to our patients and continually improving the care throughout the system. Collaborates with leaders to achieve goal of increasing quality and patient safety and decreasing harm to patients. Oversees comprehensive evaluation, investigation, reporting and remediation of safety events and daily operations. Responsible for compliance with relevant regulations and interaction with all associated regulatory agencies.


  • Acts as Patient Safety Officer for assigned locations, is responsible for the compliance with all Act 13 regulations, including high level trending of patient safety events, reporting to Patient Safety Committee and platform leadership and timely identification of safety events that require written notification to patients.
  • Oversees the identification and review of potential Sentinel Events, collaborates with RPI to conduct and complete required analysis and action planning.
  • Works collaboratively with Risk Insurance and Legal department as needed to identify potential claims and resolution of patient requests.
  • Provides employee supervision and supports the daily operations of activities for the assigned Risk Management and Patient Safety Department(s).
  • Contributes to the design and development of Clinical Risk Management and Patient Safety programs in coordination with director and division leadership.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention of all professional and paraprofessional staff.
  • Assumes operational responsibility for staffing plans to support the department best practices including position descriptions, performance evaluations, action plans, employee goal setting, hiring, promotion and disciplinary actions.
